Presented by Dr. Monica Lewandowski, Department of Plant Pathology
Plants need doctors, too! Learn about diseases that can infect our favorite trees, and why it’s important to keep plants healthy. In this session, we’ll learn the many benefits of trees by demonstrating the Tree Benefit Calculator, and some different things to look for when looking at trees. We’ll also emphasize the benefits of enjoying trees and nature, with ideas for a simple craft activity with dried leaves.
This program is ideal for students in elementary and middle school, as well as families. However, all ages are welcome!
In the Department of Plant Pathology, we study diseases of plants to keep our food supply safe and our forests and landscapes beautiful and healthy. Similar to humans, plants can get diseases from viruses, fungi, nematodes and bacteria. We also study beneficial organisms and ways to keep plants healthy. Healthy plants, healthy people, healthy planet!
