Presented by Monica Delgado Carrillo, Buckeye Aha! Math Moments
Living in a 3D world, it is hard to picture a land made of 4 dimensions. For ages, human kind has tried to draw it, but even with the power of computers, our imagination is limited by the three dimensions we live in. Turns out the inhabitants of a 2D land would have this same problem when trying to imagine the third dimension. Flatland, the book-inspired movie, tells the story of a 2D being who attempts to introduce her fellow flatlanders to the idea of a higher dimension. If we put ourselves in their shoes, we might just be able to get a glimpse of that bewildering fourth dimension.
Watch this interesting movie for all audiences and join us in a lively discussion about the fourth dimension and other math concepts that aren’t “real”, that we can’t imagine, but we study nonetheless.
Online access to the movie will be granted to those registered. It will be available from Saturday October 9th and until the day of the event. You will receive an email with details on how to access the film once the movie is available. Viewing access is limited to 250 individuals.
This program is appropriate for families, all ages are welcome!
Buckeye Aha! Math Moments is the outreach initiative from the Department of Mathematics at The Ohio State University. The initiative increases the public awareness, appreciation, and enjoyment of mathematics through a variety of activities.
Captioning will be provided for all events. If you require additional accommodations, such as interpretation, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
