A truly diverse, inclusive and equitable work environment cannot be achieved without first understanding the laws that prohibit discrimination and harassment at work. Brigid E. Heid, Melissa A. Ebel and James B. Yates, attorneys with the law firm Eastman & Smith will discuss current legal developments in the fight for racial justice and the federal and state laws against discrimination and unlawful harassment. You will learn what classes are protected by the laws against discrimination, including race, color, religion, sex (including sexual orientation, gender identity and pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, military and veteran status, and genetic information. What conduct constitutes illegal discrimination or harassment in hiring, firing, promotions, training, discipline, wages and benefits will be discussed along with the importance of complying with university policies for reporting discrimination, harassment or concerns of retaliation.
