eBird is an online database of bird observations providing scientists, researchers and amateur naturalists with real-time data about bird distribution and abundance
Pam Knudson
48:06
The bird counts are excellent ways to learn local birds.
Nicole R Jackson
48:26
We'll be reviewing how to use this app it for Citizen Science projects
Lewis Ulman
56:13
At some point, can we talk about what trees/shrubs we might plant on residential lots to support bird species facing chanllenges.
Anne Baird
57:05
Yes we have a section on stewardship so we will bring up then
Anne Baird
57:37
We can take questions at any time so feel free to use the chat when you have one
Shiloh Fouch
58:41
I had been using Merlin for identification - is eBird better from an Ohio bird species pov?
Nicole R Jackson
59:24
Merlin is connected to eBird database
Jeffrey Baker
59:24
If you are an educator with unused school ground space please consider establishing a Wild School Site through the ODNR. Another growing segment are libraries so they can also be approached if you have one you frequent
Pam Knudson
59:38
Does the e-bird data come from the citizen science bird counts?
Shiloh Fouch
59:46
Oh great! Thanks Nicole!
Renee Frederick
59:50
I use Merlin to help, ID, and eBird to report the sighting.
Cynthia Scanlon
01:02:02
Good!! It was a little overwhelming to see those high numbers!
Pam Knudson

Cynthia Scanlon
01:20:42
When entering our data -will we need to state the habituate in such detail?
Cynthia Scanlon
01:20:59
HABITATE not habituate!
Cynthia Scanlon
01:21:24
habitat -
Nicole R Jackson
01:22:53
Not really, but you can document as much detail as you'd like in Merlin. There is a section for notes in eBird if you want to include more detail around habitat. Matt will go over eBird breeding codes and why they are important

Carl Gleditsch
01:33:38
Matt, this is Darlene, what did you start with? Merlin or eBird?
Anne Baird
01:35:49
Will list these links and resources on OCVN site later
Renee Frederick
01:39:42
Anne, I eBird a lot. Acceptable for logging OCVN volunteer hours under citizen science?
Nicole R Jackson
01:41:11
No breeding codes in Merlin, but are in eBird
Anne Baird
01:41:20
Yes ebird course from Cornell can count either for continuing education or service now you can apply to either for this year.
Renee Frederick
01:42:25
Another great app is BirdNET, another Cornell product. it records a bird call/song, then tells you what species it is and what degree of certainty. The app is very accurate, and helps you learn birds by sound.
Shiloh Fouch
01:42:34
Thanks, Anne and Nicole!
